It all comes down to ultimate bragging rights this Saturday night when former Thomson High School basketball stars host former hoops players from Warren County High School.
Through the years, alumni squads have stepped on the court to face each other but this time the teams come from a large range of graduating classes.
The Once and For All Showdown, in the THS gym at 7 p.m., not only pits former rivals from throughout the years against each other but also serves as a fundraiser for the THS boys basketball program.
The proceeds will help offset participation fees Thomson High School asks be paid by each student athlete.
“This came up because I was thinking of a way of course to raise the funds to alleviate the kids, but also wanted something people were actually going to do and not be the typical fundraiser,” said Mikaela Thomson, a THS alumni, former cheerleader, and daughter of the THS boys long-time coach.
Thomson alumni include Vonteego Cummings, Antron Lee, BoBo Kelly, R.J. Johnson, Pooh Casey, Richard Johnson, Malique Gibbons, Rod Hart, BiQuavious Sturgis, Roy McGahee, Bubba Moss, Chris Crenshaw and honorary captains Pap Rogers, Deon Boyd and Kyle Murray. The players are from a wide variety graduating classes. Michael Thomas Jr. will coach the Thomson alumni squad.
Alumni representing Warren County are Antonio Bolton, Manquell Ivey, Antwon Lee, Corey Wilder, Mangible Myricks, Mario Hudson, Jabari Wilson, Carlton Latimore, Dominique Hall, Stanley Johnson Jr., Jawaun Hawkins, and Kentarvius Brinkley.
“Anybody can come and anybody can have a great time and they’re doing it for the benefit of the basketball program,” she said.
Tickets are on sale at Thomson High School for $7 in advance. The price will be $10 at the door the night of the event. There is also the option to purchase $25 courtside seats, while still available.
