The Warren County Screaming Devils traveled to south Georgia on Aug. 23 to face the Portal Panthers, defeating them 28-13.
WCHS garnered their second win of the season using their feet rushing for a total of 128 yards according to Hudl.
Dairon Jones, who rushed for 121 yards, opened the scoring with a seven-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. The two-point conversion was good, bringing the score to 8-0. Kenvonte Brinkley recovered a fumble for a 60-yard touchdown in the first quarter as well, but the two-point conversion was no good. WCHS added six to bring the score to 14-0.
Portal had two one-yard touchdown runs in the second quarter, one with a successful two-point conversion and one with an unsuccessful conversion. With those two scores, the game was almost tied at 14-13. Jones didn’t let that last long as he ran in a 64-yard touchdown near the end of the second quarter. Going into halftime, the score was 20-13.
Jones capped the scoring for WCHS in the third quarter with a 49-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was good, and the Screaming Devils went up 28-13.
The leading rusher for the game was Dairon Jones with 121 yards on five carries. Kyree Evans had three carries for 19 yards, and both Tony Wynn and Justyn Stanford had two carries for four yards each.
Warren County will travel to Johnson County to face the Trojans on Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
