Thomson High School announced the naming of a new head baseball coach last week, and they didn’t have to look far for their final decision.

Nick Rau was tentatively named as Thomson High School's new head baseball coach, Friday, May 17, by school athletic director Larry Dunn and school principal Trevor Roberson.

Rau is a 2011 THS graduate and was a stand-out player while in high school, according to the high school.

He played college ball at Georgia Southern and later Augusta University. He ended his baseball career in the American Association with the Lincoln Saltdogs in Nebraska.

For the past two years, he served as an assistant coach with the THS program.

Dunn said four candidates were interviewed for the slot, and added that Roberson will submit Rau’s name at the next board of education meeting in mid-June.

Rau, an economics teacher at THS, takes over for Brad Smith, who resigned April 25 after praying and talking with his family.
