Briarwood’s Middle School Bucs are 2-1 after their second week of play. Oddly enough, both wins came on the road for the Bucs, while they lost their season home opener.Â
The season opened at home on Feb. 23, when the MS Bucs hosted the Edmond Burke MS Spartans in Warrenton. Wyatt Lowe was the starting pitcher for the MS Bucs. The MS Spartans jumped out to an early lead; leading 9-1 by the second inning. Banks DeMore was brought in to relieve Lowe as pitcher in the second inning. The Spartans came away with the win 14-8. DeMore hit the Bucs’ first home run for the season.Â
On Feb. 27, the MS Bucs traveled to Augusta to take on the Episcopal Day School MS Panthers. The MS Bucs came away with the win 2-0. Carson Chalker pitched the shutout for the Bucs.Â
On Feb. 28, the MS Bucs traveled to Waynesboro to take on the Edmond Burke MS Spartans. The MS Bucs came away with the 5-4 win thanks to home runs by Banks DeMore and Ryder Johnston. Â
Next week the MS Bucs are scheduled for four games. Â
On Monday, March 6, the Bucs will host the Episcopal Day School MS Panthers at home in Warrenton at 4 p.m. On Tuesday, March 7, the MS Bucs will travel to Gibson to take on the Glascock County Panthers at 4 p.m. On Thursday, March 9, the MS Bucs will host the John Hancock Academy MS Rebels at 3:30 p.m. The MS Bucs will finish up the week with a road trip to Eatonton where they are scheduled to play the Gatewood MS Gators at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 10.
