Edmund Burke Academy may have taken home the Backyard Battle rivalry trophy earlier this year, but Briarwood Academy is headed to the state title game this Friday. They will face the Gatewood Gators.

The Thomson High School Bulldog’s season drew to a close Friday night with a 35-0 playoff loss at Cartersville High School.

Briarwood is headed to the GISA final four playoffs this Friday and will face Edmund Burke Academy for a second time this year. The winner will advance to the GISA AA state championship game in Macon.

Thomson High School’s Bulldogs dominated the Hardaway Golden Hawks 34-0 in a wet, blustery first-round playoff win Friday night at The Brickyard.

A second half scoring outage, missed assignments and turnovers led to the Burke County Bears taking the Region 3-AAAA Championship after defeating the Thomson Bulldogs 37-21 Friday night in the Bears Den.

In somewhat similar fashion to a win earlier in the season, the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers scored the winning touchdown on a big run in the final minute of the game to defeat St. Andrews 14-7 last Friday.

Briarwood Academy’s winning streak came to an end last Friday after the Bucs lost 28-27 to Memorial Day. Briarwood is now 7-1.

The Thomson Bulldogs scored early and often against the Baldwin Braves Friday night in Milledgeville.

After trailing for most of the game, the Briarwood Academy Buccaneers scored the winning touchdown with just 44.5 seconds remaining and defeated Thomas Jefferson Academy 27-23. Both teams entered the field undefeated Friday night, but now Thomas Jefferson falls to 5-1 and the Bucs are 7-0.

The Thomson Bulldogs were able to stay with the Lee County Trojans early in the game, but ended up losing 55-13 Friday night in Leesburg.
