In a week that originally had four games scheduled, the Diamond Bucs actually played only one game due to scheduling issues and cancellations. However, what a game it was! The Diamond Bucs pummeled the Glascock County Panthers on their home field in Gibson, 13-3. With this victory, the Bucs move to 3-3 on the season.   Â
Sophomore Steven Harshbarger was the pitcher for the Diamond Bucs. The Bucs struck first in the top of the second when Blake Tench scored. In the top of the third, the Bucs added one more run when Sawyer Thigpen scored on a single by Hollis Evans. The Bucs were on top 2-0. In the bottom of the third, the Panthers added two runs to tie the score 2- all.Â
In the top of the fourth inning, the Bucs added four more runs to take the lead 6-2. Blake Tench scored on a single by Allen Deloach to take the lead. Deloach then scored on a single by Sterling Nail to widen the lead 4-2, Bucs. Bonner Reynolds scored on a single by Sawyer Thigpen to widen the Bucs’ lead to 5-2. Mason Poss scored on a fielder’s choice by Hollis Evans. The Panthers failed to score in the fourth.Â
In the top of the fifth inning, the Bucs really heated up and increased their lead to 11-2 by adding five additional runs. Blake Tench was up first for the Bucs and was walked. Allen Deloach hit a single and Tench got to third. Bonner Reynolds came to bat; Tench slid home on a wild pitch. The Bucs were now 7-2. Reynolds got a hit; Deloach scored. It was 8-2, Bucs. Sterling Nail hit a single, followed by a walk for Sawyer Thigpen. The bases were loaded. Hollis Evans came to bat, but his ball was caught while Reynolds slid home for the ninth Bucs’ run. Steven Harshbarger came to bat and Nail ran home for the tenth Bucs’ run followed by Thigpen for the Bucs’ eleventh score. In the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers failed to score, and the Bucs went onto the sixth inning with a 11-2 lead.Â
In the sixth inning, Allen Deloach, Bonner Reynolds, and Sterling Nail were all walked to load the bases. Sawyer Thigpen was at bat when Deloach and Reynolds both scored. The Bucs were now up 13-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Steven Harshbarger was still on the mound for the Bucs. The Panthers managed one run, but it was not enough. With the score at 13-3, the game was called on the bottom of the sixth for the Diamond Bucs.Â
The Diamond Bucs were led by Allen Deloach with three runs, two hits, and one RBI. Bonner Reynolds had three runs, one hit and one RBI. Blake Tench had three runs and one hit. Sawyer Thigpen had two runs, three hits, and three RBIs. Sterling Nail had one run, one hit, and one RBI. Hollis Evans had two hits and three RBIs. Mason Poss added one run and one hit. In total the Bucs had 13 runs and 11 hits. Â
Steven Harshbarger pitched all six innings for the Diamond Bucs. Harshbarger gave up only five hits and allowed only three runs. Harshbarger walked only two Panthers and struck out eight.Â
This week, the Diamond Bucs were set to face regional rival the Augusta Prep Cavaliers in two games. On Monday, March 13, they were to host the Cavaliers at home in Warrenton. Then on Thursday, March 16, they will travel to Augusta to play the Augusta Prep Cavaliers again at 4:30 p.m. The Cavs are currently 4-3 on the season.Â
