During the COVID-19 situation, Briarwood Academy put a new twist on its annual Winter Sports Banquet & Senior Recogniton.

Instead of gathering in person in the school gym, sports awards were announced through a YouTube video last Wednesday.

The video included photos from different teams and events, video messages from coaches, and images announcing the award winners for each team.

Award winners for boys varsity basketball were Aaron Land, MVP; Andrew Stapleton, offensive player of the year; Tucker Purvis, defensive player of the year; Preston Myhand, most improved player; and Evan Moore, Coach’s Award.

Award winners for girls  varsity basketball were Kennedy Mosley, MVP; Chloe Wilson, offensive player of the year; Grace Bridges, defensive player of the year; Finlay Florence, most improved player; Phoebe Brooks, Hustle Award; Mattie Grae Cheely, Teammate Award; and Camille Wilson, Coach’s Award.

Evan Moore and Chloe Wilson each received the W.T. Pilcher Award.

The Will Holley Memorial Athletic Award was presented to Barrett Johnson.
