Dear Editor:

I am a widow, 77 years old. I live in a rural area in McDuffie County.  I pay taxes (property) on this property. I have owned the house and land for several years.

Today, I went to the store and when I started home, a tree had fallen across my driveway. I couldn’t get around it to get to my house. It is a long driveway so I had to walk on down to the house. I didn’t know what to do! Finally, I called the county road department. I asked them to please come out and take the tree out of the driveway. They came out and looked and never called me back. I finally called them back and they said they could not come out on private property.

Now, I ask myself why am I paying property taxes? I know other counties help people when disasters occur, especially people of my age. To me, this was a Disaster. I shall remember these people when I go to vote again and I hope everyone in McDuffie County will also remember too.

Thank you for publishing this letter.

Charlotte,

A Senior Citizen of McDuffie County
