Roy G. Black

Edgehill - Mr. Roy G. Black, 91, entered into eternal rest on October 6, 2021. Roy was born in St. Matthews, South Carolina on March 12, 1930, later moved to Glascock County and has lived there all of his life. He is a member of Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church. Mr. Black’s career for the majority of his life has been in logging and timber harvesting, and when he went to work, his dogs “Oliver” and “Pago” were always in the back of his truck. He was also the owner/operator of Black Contracting. He was known for being an exceptional basketball player in his high school years, enjoyed raising cattle and hogs, enjoyed traveling and especially going to the Florida Keys. He never met a stranger, and would always lend a hand to those in need. Roy loved his friends and his family dearly. Mr. Black is preceded in death by his parents, T. G. Black and Daisy Cobb Black and his sisters, Anita Black Galloway and Joyce Black Roberts Greiner. His survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Annette Huff Black; his son, Roy T. Black (Patsy) of Waynesboro; his daughters, Connie Black Jackson of Gibson and Lisa Black of Augusta; his step-daughters, Cynthia May of Augusta and Cheryl Locke (Carey) of Alamo; his step-son, Craig Hawkins of Augusta; and his grandchildren, Jennifer Barefield (Mitch), Jaime Whitman (Sterling), Aleah Hawkins, and his great grandchildren, Mitchell Barefield and Wyatt Carey. A Visitation was held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home. His Funeral was held on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia, being officiated by Rev. T. F. Yawn and Rev. Tommy Harwell, and his interment followed at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery, Glascock County. The pallbearers for the service are Victor Raley, Lee Griffin, Al Wheeler, Charles Roberts, Jr., Danny Beckworth and Ronnie Hadden, and honorary pallbearers are James Roberts and Wayman Roberts. Frances Axon Gilmer

Warrenton - Mrs. Frances Axon Gilmer, 74, entered into eternal rest on October 10, 2021. Frances was born in McDuffie County, Georgia on April 17, 1947, lived and grew up there, and she and her husband moved to Warrenton, Georgia in 1969. She worked at Dwight Eisenhower Hospital, Fort Gordon in civil service and retired from there. Frances loved gardening, working with flowers, loved talking to people, loved her friends and family and especially loved her granddaughter. Mrs. Gilmer is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Axon and Sue Whitaker Duckworth and her sister, Dorothy Boyd. Her survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Darwin Gilmer; her son, Joey Gilmer (Kim); her grandchild, Cady Leeann Wise (Matt) and her great grandchild, Owen Wise. Derek Anthony Harris departed this life October 5, 2021. He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his wife Linda Ann Harris, a son, Christopher, Sr. (Shondra) Harris, two grandsons, one granddaughter; four sisters, Veronica Reboe, Peggy Parks, both of Thomson, GA, Melba Harris of Los Angeles, CA and Connie Pollard of McDonough, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dearing - Johnnie Jacklyn Hayes, 72, went home to be with the Lord October 10, 2021. Warrenton - Mrs. Ruth Marie C. Reese, 65, entered into eternal rest on October 5, 2021. Marie was born in Cordele, Georgia on July 11, 1956, grew up in the Cordele area and moved to Warrenton, Georgia 42 years ago. Mrs. Reese’s career was an Office Manager at Serenity Mental Health for 35 years. After retirement, Marie enjoyed real estate with her daughter, Katie at Meybohm Real Estate. She was Methodist by faith and a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, hiking and especially loved her children, family and friends. Mrs. Reese is preceded in death by her parents, Olen Christmas and Leona Walls Christmas. Her survivors include her beloved husband, Anthony Leon Reese of 46 years; her son, Travis Leon Reese (Emily); her daughter, Katie Marie Reese Newsome (Seth); and her sisters, Barbara L. Atherton, Margie McBryant, Sherry Long, Jane McCullough. Her Memorial Service, being officiated by Rev. Thomson - Mr. Jeffrey “Jeffro” Patrick Andrew Vermette, 72, entered into eternal rest on October 9, 2021. Jeffrey was born in Washington, D.C. on January 22, 1949, lived and grew up there, was a mail clerk for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon for 25 years and moved to Thomson, Georgia after his retirement. He loved people, was very humble and loved animals, especially cats. He enjoyed poker, playing horseshoes, listening to oldies music, spoke fluent Spanish, knew sign language, and was very intelligent. Jeffro was a member of the Nations Capital Area Bowling Association, loved sports and especially loved the Dallas Cowboys. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed family reunions. Mr. Vermette is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ellis Leon Vermette and Daphne Richards and his adoptive Dad, Bob Robinson “Pops”. His survivors include his, adoptive mother, Beth Robinson; his brother, Chris Robinson (Janet); his sisters, Mary “Missy” Watkins, Donna McCully (Ed) and Lori Kalcheff (George); and numerous nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Beggs Funeral Home.
