Thomson, GA - On Thursday, May 14, 2020, Gloria Jean Sturgis entered into rest.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Chaneka (Abe) Huntley, Chaunsie (Gail) Heard, Paranica, Sr. (Shawanna) Heard and Remon (Dandrea) Brown; nineteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; six sisters, Linda Bradshaw, Betty Sturgis, Carolyn Gibson, Linda Grissom, Elizabeth Kendrick and Luvinea (Alex) Climons and a host of other relatives and special friends.

A memorial service was held on May 19, 2020 at the home of Chaneka Huntley in Augusta, GA.

 Thomson, GA – Mr. Jimmy Dell Lancaster, 53, entered into rest May 12, 2020.

Mr. Jimmy Dell Lancaster was born in Woodland, CA, the son of the late William Alvin Lancaster and the late Jimmie Nell Parker Lancaster.  After graduating from Thomson High School he served in the U.S. Army.  Mr. Lancaster worked for Kingsley Mill before becoming a general contractor for McDuffie Builders and later starting McDuffie Electrical and Lancaster Residential.  He was an avid golfer and Alabama fan and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and vacationing with family.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 34 years, Robin Lancaster; daughter, Jessica Ylda (Greg) of Richardson, TX; grandchild, Jaxon Ylda; brother, Danny Lancaster of NC; and sisters, Gale Robertson (Doug) and Kay Powell (Steve) both of Thomson, GA and Shelia Smith of Millport, AL.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the Thomson Country Club with Rev. Mark Sellers officiating.  

It is the family’s desire that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dearing, GA - James Ludwig Linnenkohl, age 96, entered into rest May 16, 2020.

Mr. Linnenkohl is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marjorie Whitaker Linnenkohl, his daughter Kathy Linnenkohl Bongard (Joe) of Augusta and his stepson, Gary Linnenkohl (Denise) of Moultrie, four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Hildred H. Newsome

Thomson, GA - Mrs. Hildred H. Newsome, 95, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at Lake Crossing Health Center. She was precdeceased by her late husband, Morgan Newsome; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. H. A. Humphrey; two brothers, Everette and Hugh D. Humphrey; a sister, Helen Johnson; a nephew, Allen Humphrey and a niece Stephanie McCord. She is survived by three sisters, Faye H. Montgomery-Wood and Joanne H. Harris, both of Thomson, and Dahlia H. Calton, Pine Mountain, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews including, Duanne Humphrey, Christopher Humphrey, Kathy H. Brown, Debra Harris, Donna Quick, Danny Johnson, and Rodney Calton.

After moving to Thomson from Mitchell, GA, Hildred worked as a telephone operator with Southern Bell, a receptionist/operator with National Homes and assumed ownership and management of Newsome’s Grocery at the death of her husband. She was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and on Sundays attended Antioch Baptist Church services held at Lake

Crossing. The church’s children and youth were very special to her and visited and cared for her during the services on Sunday.

Private graveside services will be at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jason Epley officiating. Due to Covid-19, there will be no visitation.

If desired, memorials may be made in Hildred’s memory to the Children/Youth Ministry at Antioch Baptist Church, 723 W. Milledgeville Road, Harlem, Ga. 30814, or to the charity of your choice.

Hildred’s family sincerely thanks the Hall A nurses and assistant nurses and the maintenance and housekeeping staff at Lake Crossing for the many kindnesses and care given to Hildred during her residence at Lake Crossing.

John Raymond Roquemore

Thomson, GA – Mr. John Raymond Roquemore, 85, entered into rest May 9, 2020.

Mr. Roquemore was born in Lanett, AL, the son of the late Leroy Roquemore and the late Octavia Kirkland Roquemore.  He graduated from Osborne High School in Marietta, GA, obtained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from California State University Long Beach, and a Masters Degree in Nuclear Physics from Georgia Institute of Technology.  Mr. Roquemore worked for Lockheed Martin for 41 years before retiring as Vice President and later assuming the position as president of Middle River Aircraft Systems.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomson, the American Red Cross, and the March of Dimes.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Margaret Lorraine Hicks Roquemore; son, Gary Raymond Roquemore (Karen Kirk) of Thomson, GA; daughter, Sherri Kramer (Matthew) of Culloden, GA; grandchildren, Tara Kimbell (Michael) of Powder Springs, GA, James Raymond Roquemore (Lauren) of Hiram, GA, Matthew Mannino of Thomson, GA, and Amanda Mannino of Culloden, GA; and great grandchildren, Lacy Kimbell, Brookeston Kimbell, Findley Roquemore, Lawson Roquemore, Marlowe Roquemore, and Kay Mannino; and brother, Michael Roquemore of Kennesaw, GA.

A private service was held Monday, May 11, 2020, in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Lambert officiating.  A Celebration of Life ceremony is planned for July 2020 with further details to follow.

Augusta, GA- Ms. Yvonne H. Sandifer, 51, entered into rest May 18, 2020.

Ms. Sandifer was a 1987 graduate of Thomson High School.  She was passionate about teaching and served several years with her Wrens Elementary and North Augusta Elementary family.  

She was predeceased by her sister, Kathy Hawkins Gilmer.

Survivors include her parents, Jimmy Hawkins (Kathy) and Gail Petitt Belcher; sons, Cole Wright of Athens, GA and Kyle Wright (Abygale) of Statesboro, GA; paternal grandmother, Audrey Hawkins; daughters, Kaitlyn Ramsey (Zach) and Ashlynn Sandifer all of Augusta, GA; brothers, Brad Belcher (Amanda) of N. Augusta, SC, Kevin Belcher of Augusta, GA, and Benjamin Hawkins (Stephanie) of N. Augusta, SC; aunt, Judy Pettit of Memphis, TN; and nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2020 in the Westview Cemetery, Thomson, GA with Rev. Jim McCollough officiating.
