Lawrence Albert Flynn

Thomson, GA – Mr. Lawrence Albert Flynn, 77, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

Mr. Flynn a native of Hartford, CT was living in Thomson, GA at his death.  He loved Christ & his family.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Flynn ran a successful family amusement center in Wells Beach, Maine.  He also enjoyed animals, singing & playing guitar.

He is survived by his wife of 40-years Nadine K. Flynn, daughter Cindy Graham, sons Carter Flynn (Lisa), Justin Flynn (Emily), Adam Flynn (Natalie) and six grandchildren. (Devin, Owen, Nathan, Ryan, Kyle, & Carli).

Edward “Eddie” Anton Gerkitz

Thomson, GA – Mr. Eddie Gerkitz, 42, entered into rest March 11, 2019.

Mr. Gerkitz was born in Joliet, Illinois, the son of the late Edward Ronald Gerkitz and the late Dena Lamble Gerkitz.  He lived most of his life in McDuffie County, GA, was a 1994 graduate of Thomson High School, and had an Associate degree in Criminal Justice from Augusta Technical College.  Mr. Gerkitz worked as a salesman for Advance Auto and had previously worked as a firefighter with the City of Thomson and McDuffie Fire & Rescue. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, video games, and was a Chicago Cubs fan.  Mr. Gerkitz was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Jessica Bonner Gerkitz;  sons, Kyle Whitmire (Amy), Damian Gerkitz, R.C. Ray, Johnathon Ray, and Milo Gerkitz; brothers, Jamie Schaefer, Kevin Schaefer, Greg Schaefer, and Kelly Schaefer; sister, Theresa M. Gerkitz; and 2 grandchildren, Kailynn Whitmire and Kennidy Whitmire.

A graveside service was held at 3 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2019 at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Father Stephen Lyness as Celebrant.

Norwood, GA - Mr. Gary Spencer "Shorty" Hinman,  70,  entered into rest March 12, 2019.

Thomson, GA - Mr. Luther Horace Moore, Jr., age 69, departed his earthly life March 8, 2019 .

Survivors include:  wife, Joyce Mathis Moore of Thomson, GA; son, Luther Horace Moore, III of Jacksonville, FL; grandson  Amontay Moore of Thomson, GA; seven grandchildren, Myron Predikant of Augusta, GA, Makeysa Murry of Augusta, GA, Kenneth Hollimon of Saint Louis, MS, Jayla Leonard of Thomson, GA, Kalayha Moore of Macon, GA, David Boatwright of Thomson, GA and Danielle Moore of Augusta, GA; six great-grandchildren, Aariya Walker of Augusta, GA, Chase Murry of Augusta, GA, Kaiden Leonard and Elijah Battle, both of Thomson, GA, Kenzie Holliman of Saint Louis, MS and Cason Murry of Augusta, GA; three siblings, Josephine Belton, Helen Crawford, both of Thomson, GA and Shirley (Willie) Calvin of Augusta, GA; and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many additional sorrowing friends.

James Franklin Newsome

Mr. James Franklin (Frank) Newsome passed away Friday March 15, 2019 at his home.

Frank was born in Thomson, GA, on March 10, 1957 to Homer Clarence and Theo Farr Newsome (deceased).

Frank earned a BS in Agronomy from the University of Georgia and worked in his field at the UGA experiment station until retiring in 2011.

Frank loved music, camping with friends, hunting, fishing, gardening and caring for his land. He was a gentle, studious man with a big heart, a quiet manner and a loving spirit. He especially enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Frank lived his life on his own terms.

A faithful friend, brother, and son, a devoted father and husband, he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years Debra, son Asher and wife Ikumi, daughter Emily, brother David Newsome and wife Judy, sister Judy Stewart and husband Glenn, sister Naomi Beers and husband Barry, an Aunt and an Uncle, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frank was of the Baptist Faith.

A celebration of Frank's life is planned for later this spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to UGA Horticulture Club Scholarship fund, Horticulture Department, UGA, Athens GA 30602 or a charity of your choice.

Arthur Randall Walker

Thomson, GA - Mr. Arthur Randall “Randy” Walker, 62, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at his residence.

A memorial service was held  March 15, 2019, in Bethel Baptist Church.

Mr. Walker was born in Birmingham, Al., but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a former radio operator for the McDuffie County Sheriff department.

He is survived by his three sisters, J. Charlotte Walker, Aiken S.C., Jackie (Billy) Rogers and Jane Walker, both of Thomson; 5 nieces and nephews; 7 great nieces and nephews; and 3 great-great nieces and nephews.
