Lorraine Batten

Warrenton, GA - Mrs. Lorraine “Lori” Batten, 75, entered into rest June 20, 2019.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 54 years, Jack Batten; son, Johnny Batten (Joy) of Lincolnton, GA; daughter, Jenny Belding (Ben) of Martinez, GA; brothers, Bruce Dauer (Joan) of ND, Brian Dauer of CO, and Rodney Dauer (Cheri) of ND; sisters, JoAnne Ness (Ken) of OH, Phyllis Holzbauer (Al) of MN, and Teresa Grammond of ND; sister-in-law, Judy Dauer of ND; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held June 23, 2019 in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Widener officiating.

John B. Brassell

Gibson, GA- Mr. John Barry Brassell, 67, entered into rest June 23, 2019.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 28, in Knowles Chapel United Methodist Church, Sparta, Ga., with the Reverend Darrell McGinnish officiating.  Interment will follow in church cemetery.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Cathy Reynolds (Randall) and great granddaughter Cate Reynolds; his son Sam Brassell (Amanda Dill), of Sparta, Georgia;  his siblings, Susie Reddick (Jimmy), Sparta, Georgia, Ronnie “Red” Chalker (Debbie) Mitchell, Georgia, Charlene Ellis (Ricky Sr.), Tennille, Georgia, and Betsy Chalker of Warrenton, Georgia.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday at Knowles Chapel United Methodist Church.

Sam Brunson

Thomson, GA – Mr. Samuel “Sam” Brunson, 89, entered into rest June 21, 2019.

Mr. Brunson grew up in Camak, Georgia and was the son of the late William Heath Brunson and the late Mildred Crouch Brunson. Following his service in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, he worked at Ft. Gordon as an electrician and retired with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed raising animals, farming and loved traveling with his wife, Joyce. Mr. Brunson was a member of Young Memorial United Methodist Church, a 32nd degree mason, a member of the A. J. Miller Masonic Lodge #204, the Scottish Rite Valley of Augusta, Alee Shrine Temple and the Thomson Shrine Club.  He served on the McDuffie County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 25 years and as secretary and treasurer for 23 years.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Joyce Story Brunson; daughters, Cheryl Cook  (Bryan), Karen Land (Keith); grandchildren, Josh Land (Terresa), Matthew Pike (Morgan), Elizabeth Land, Will Land and great grandchildren, Cassie Land and Mayzie Pike.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with Rev. Melissa Reynolds officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 1 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

It is the family’s desire that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Margaret  Frauhiger

Thomson, GA - Mrs. Margaret Wall Frauhiger, 67, entered into rest June 17, 2019.

Funeral services were held June 21, 2019 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Harlem, with the Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.  

Survivors include a very special person of many many years, William “Bill” Kitchens “Buddy”; Daughter: Cathy Kitchens Key; three grandchildren: Preston Key, Ashley Key, and Taylor Key: her sisters, Jeannette Turner & Norma Jean Faglier (Billy) both of Stapleton and Lou Fleater Chalker of Gibson; daughter-in-law Teila Driggers of Collins; a granddaughter Brandi Waller of Athens and a special grandson Manuel Garcia of Ok.; a host of nieces and nephews.

Harold Hammett

Dearing, GA - Mr. Harold Hammett, 88, entered into rest June 21, 2019.

Funeral services were held June 24, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Roy Frierson, and Frank Thigpen officiating.  

He is survived by a son, Wayne Hammett (Missy), Warrenton; sister, Maggie Wilkerson, Grovetown.

Lewis Johnson

Lewis Johnson

Thomson, GA – Mr. Barney Lewis Johnson, Sr., 86, entered into rest June 20, 2019.

Mr. Johnson, a long-time resident of Thomson, but grew up in Warren county, was the son of the late Ira Johnson and the late Annie Landrum Johnson.  He retired from the Thomson Company as a Cutting Room Manager, after 30 years in the garment industry.  Mr. Johnson was a member of the VFW, the Disabled Veterans, the Gideons, and Washington Heights Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Betty Chalker Johnson; son, Barney Lewis Johnson, Jr. (Janice) of Bluffton, SC; daughter, Wanda Johnson Hayes (Bob) of Watkinsville, GA; 4 grandchildren, B.L. Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Gina Hayes, and Kelly Williams; and 3 great grandchildren, Pierce Johnson, Ridge Johnson, and Josey Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Washington Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Thompson and Rev. Tommy Harwell officiating. Interment followed in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to offer special thanks to his caregivers: Vernita Hill, Virginia Anderson, and Debra Neal and to Regency Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Gideons.

Duncan Allmon Sessoms

Gibson, GA – Mr. Duncan Allmon Sessoms, 77, entered into rest June 20, 2019.

Mr. Sessoms was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the son of the late Allmon Sessoms and the late Kathleen Gales Sessoms.  He grew up in Fayetteville, NC, where he played basketball in school, and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.  Mr. Sessoms moved to Gibson, GA from Harlem, GA where he had resided for many years.  He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and later did computer engineering.  Mr. Sessoms was a member of Fort Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Patrick Duncan Sessoms of Fayetteville, NC; sister, Gale Howard of Greer, SC; and close friends, Jimmy McLane and Dr. Kelli Carter of Gibson, GA.

No service is planned at this time.

Thomson, GA - Mrs. Orian Amarylis “Mollis” Jones Wilson, 88 of Cedar Rock Road, Thomson, GA departed this life on June 21, 2019 at her residence.   Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Springfield Baptist Church, Thomson, GA with Rev. F.D. Favors, Pastor. Interment: Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson. Repast: The BRW Nutritional Center.

Survivors are: two daughters, Dr. Chavala Wilson, Decatur, GA and  Dr. Linda (Dr. Paul) Omondi, Caseyville, IL; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Lorene Jones, Winston-Salem NC, Helen (James) Jackson and June Wilson, all of Atlanta, GA; a devoted caregiver, Virginia Reese of Thomson, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
