Courtney Joy “CJ” Greene, age 32, passed away on May 19, 2021. Courtney was born on December 26, 1988 in Greenville, South Carolina to Rickey Ware Greene and Jeannie Overton Greene Smith. She graduated from Grayson High School, attended college at Gwinnett College, and was a beloved member of the downtown Lawrenceville community. Courtney was preceded in death by her father, Rickey Greene, grandparents, James E. Overton and W. Mae Weaver Overton of Pensacola, FL, grandfather, Wilburn W. (Billy) Greene of Thomson, GA, and step-grandparents Mandell and Emma Smith of Snellville, GA. She is survived by her children, Emerson John McKay and Margo Joy Greene, her partner Miller C. Robson of Lawrenceville, GA, second father and mother Edward A. Smith, Jeannie Overton Greene Smith of Grayson, GA, sisters Kelly Nicole Greene (Corey Jay Bradberry) of Chicago and Melissa Ann Smith Harrison (Randy Wade Harrison) and nephews Bradyn and Travis Harrison of Gray, GA, paternal grandmother Faye C. He is survived by long time companion, Angie Henderson of Mitchell, daughter, Iris M. May (Idemaro Dojfantas) of Puerto Rico, son, Jessie May (Racheal Kissah) of Beach Island, SC., one grandson; three granddaughters; brother, Bubba May (Teresa) of Mitchell; sister, Joan Locklear (Rodger) of Appling, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Tommy Eugene Newsome
Mr. Tommy Eugene Newsome, 57, of Warrenton, Georgia, entered into rest on May 28, 2021. Mr. Newsome was born in Washington, Georgia on March 23, 1964 and lived in Warrenton, Georgia most of his life. He was the son of Bobby Newsome and the late Suzanne Elizabeth Thompson Newsome. Tommy was a welder and machinist by profession, was employed at East Welding and Repair. He enjoyed working, building and repairing machinery, and loved building old cars and racing go-carts, and especially loved his family and friends. Survivors include his father, Bobby Newsome (Etta); his Aunt Vera Ansley of Thomson, Georgia; his Uncle John Newsome of Atlanta; numerous cousins and many, many friends. Pallbearers for the Service will be Al Wheeler, Steve Smith, Tommy Duckworth, Heath Clark, Ron McMahon and Timmy Landrum. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia with Rev. Tommy Harwell, officiating with interment following in Westview Cemetery. Sara Francis Phillips
Mrs. Sara Francis Phillips, 86, of Port Arthur, Texas, went to be with her Lord on May 29, 2021. Mrs. Sara Francis Phillips was born in Thomson, Georgia on February 15, 1935, and grew up in Dearing, Georgia until she graduated from Dearing High School in 1953, when she married John D Phillips of Dearing. They moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where John became a Seaman. She and John had two daughters and one son. Sara went back to school and became a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital, Port Arthur. She was a member of Procter Baptist Church in Port Arthur. They moved to Thomson, Georgia after Hurricane Harvey flooded their home in 2017. Their health started to decline in early 2018 and both became residents of Lake Crossing Health Center. Sara was preceded in death by her Husband, John David Phillips; her parents, Adolphin Roger Phillips and Burnial May Smith Phillips; her daughters, Sharon Houston and Regina Cellars; and her brothers, Gene Phillips, Roy Phillips and Sam Phillips. Her survivors include her son, Johnny Ray Phillips, of Texas; her sister, Helen Revell of Thomson, Georgia; and six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren in Texas. Visitation will be held at Beggs Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel following the Visitation, with Rev.
