Charles Joseph Barrow

Warrenton, GA- Mr. Charles “Chuck” Joseph Barrow, 63, of Stoney Grove Church Road, entered into rest June 12, 2020 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Barrow, a native of Miami, Florida, was the son of Mrs. Annabella Bowman Barrow and the late William James Barrow.  Chuck served in the U.S. Army and retired as a CW3 with 21 years of service.  While in the U.S. Army, he obtained his bachelor’s degree.  After retirement, Mr. Barrow worked for Augusta Transportation as a diesel mechanic.  He was a member of Second Chance Independent Church of Thomson.  Chuck can be described as a “Family Man”; everything he did involved his family.  He also loved to read and put puzzles together.  You could often find Chuck sneaking a trip to 2nd and Charles to restock on books to read. Mr. Barrow traveled the world in the Army and after his retirement, he continued to travel when time permitted.  

Left behind to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 42 years, Ute Stimmler Barrow; daughter, Jennifer Foraker (Houston) of Thomson; two sons, Timothy A. Barrow (Katherine) of Thomson and Eric J. Barrow (Nikki) of Warrenton; sixteen grandchildren; his mother, Annabella Bowman Barrow; four brothers and one sister and a host of other family, church family and friends he dearly loved.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Second Chance Independent Church with Rev. Charles E. Reese officiating.  

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.  

If so desired, memorials may be made in Chuck’s honor to Second Chance Independent Church, 1152 Hillcrest Drive, Thomson, Georgia 30824.

Thomas Lovett Mobley

Thomson, GA – Mr. Thomas Lovett Mobley, 92, entered into rest June 10, 2020.

Mr. Mobley, long-time resident of McDuffie County, was the son of the late Owen Mobley and the late Evelyn Martin Mobley.  After graduation from Waynesboro High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Marines during the Korean War.  Mr. Mobley later attended Augusta Junior College and worked for the Nabisco Company for 37 years.  He was a Mason and a member of the Thomson Rotary Club.  Mr. Mobley enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, camping, sightseeing, being at his lake house, attending sports activities, and spending time with his family.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Emma Mobley Salemi.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Kathryn M. Mobley; daughters, Dianne M. Henning and Patricia Lynne Mobley; son, Bryan T. Mobley; grandchildren, Steven Henning, James M. Henning, Jr., Tommy Mobley, and Jennifer Mobley; and eight great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2020 in the Westview Cemetery with Dr. David Lambert officiating.  

Due to the current national health concern, the family would appreciate all calls, cards, texts, and e-mails.

Francis M. Smith, Jr.

Thomson, GA - Mr. Francis M. Smith, Jr., beloved husband of Mrs. Carolyn Smith, died Monday, June 15, 2020, at his residence.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, no visitation will be held. A private family memorial service will be held in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Lambert officiating.

Mr. Smith was a native of Claxton, Ga., but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was an Air Force veteran, having served in Germany. He was retired from Bell South, as an engineer. He was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Smith, Thomson; his four daughters, Fran Krigland, Newnan, Dr. Wendy Goza, Fayetteville, Ga., Kristie Ford, Tucker, and Tally Willard, Claxton; his two sisters, Mrs. Winnie Stubbs, Waynesboro, Va. and Linda Swift, Plainfield, Pa.; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Go and Tell Mission Fund at the Thomson First Baptist Church.
