Thomson, GA - Mrs. Christine Samuels Baldwin entered into eternal rest on  July 9, 2019.

Her memories will forever by cherished by her loving, devoted family members and friends: three daughters, Brenda Samuels (Jamie) Smith, Valarie Baldwin (James) Dexter, all of Augusta, GA and Theresa Baldwin (Tony) Briscoe of Hephzibah, GA; eleven grandchildren, Xazier Smith of Atlanta, GA, Toya (Jamal) Grey, Sholonda Smith, Dominique Bell, Monique Baldwin, Kiwuane Caraway, Ebony Lovett, Tiffany Lovett, all of Augusta, GA, Perry (Eureka) Barefield of Greenville, SC, Antoine Lovett of Texas and Mike (Lisa) Baldwin of North Augusta, SC; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Roberts of Thomson, GA and Sandra Samuels (Carl) Curry of Grovetown, GA; seven brothers, Jessie (Aretha) Samuels of Ridgeway, SC, Bobby Samuels, Min. Jimmy (Brenda) Samuels, Milton (Carrie) Samuels, all of Thomson, GA, Larry (Pat) Samuels, Ray (Phyllis) Samuels, all of Atlanta, GA and Ronnie (Rev. Dorothy) Samuels of Warrenton, GA; one godson, Bryan (LaTronya) Gaines of Atlanta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.

Services were held July 15, 2019 at First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Appling, GA with Rev. Roscoe Perry, Pastor, Officiating.

Thomson, GA - Ms. Camilla Carlton Collins age 53, passed on July 15, 2019.

A memorial service will be held July 20, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Green Branch Baptist Church, Thomson.

Grady Gay

Dearing, GA - Mr. Grady Gay, 73, beloved husband of Mrs. Wanda H. Gay, died Tuesday, July 9, 2019, in the Azalea Health & Rehab Facility in Augusta.

Graveside services were held, July 12, in the Iron Hill Advent  Christian Church Cemetery, with Brother M. L. Barber officiating.

Mr. Gay was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Dearing for many years. He was retired from the construction business. He was a Marine veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Iron Hill Advent Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bessie Gay, 3 brothers, Theodore, Ben and Frank. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Wanda Gay, Dearing; 4 daughters, Tonya Sanders, Clearwater, Fl., Tina Bracknell, Tn, Pam Gwinn and Kimberly Phillips, both of Augusta; 2 stepdaughters, Kay Phillips, Texas, and Toni Lane, Jackson Ga.; and 2 stepsons, Tim Smith, Dearing, and Wendell Peebles; and numerous grandchildren.

Anne Pratt Poss

Thomson, GA - Anne Poss, beloved wife of George William (Sonny) Poss entered into eternal rest on July 9, 2019 at her home.

Born to Parks Winfield and Emma Thomson Pratt in Bonaire, GA,  Anne was reared in Covington, GA.  She attended Stetson University in Deland, FL and received both her Bachelor and Master of Science from the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.

She taught at Paul Knox Junior High School in North Augusta, S.C. for two years prior to transferring to the new Butler High School in Augusta, GA.  During her 29 years there, she taught senior english and college composition.  She was also a debate team coach, literary coordinator, and Chairman of the Language Arts Department.  She and her husband moved to Thomson in 1995.  They divided their time between Thomson and their lake house in Lincoln County.

Anne was a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church, the Greater Augusta Kappa Delta Alumnae Association, the McDuffie Regional Medical Foundation, the Thomson Boat Club, and the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Thomson.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William Albert (Bill) Pratt of Jacksonville, FL, James Donald (Jim) Pratt of Memphis, TN and Parks Winfield (Sonny) Pratt of Covington, GA , as well as two sisters; Joyce Pratt Hopkins of Griffin, GA and Doris Pratt Kirkland of Covington, GA.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Sarah Pratt Moore of Covington, GA and a brother, Hugh Kenneth Pratt of Martinez, GA; many nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.

James “Buddy” Smith

Thomson, GA – Mr. James “Buddy” Doyle Smith, 63, entered into rest July 13, 2019.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Yvonne Smith; son, Greg Smith of Anderson, SC; daughters, Lisa Smith and Kelly Brown (Daniel) of Anderson, SC; stepdaughter, Kimberly Smith of Covington, GA; sister, Donna Thomburgh; and five grandchildren.

Henry Thomas

Thomson, GA - Mr. Henry Thomas entered into rest July 9, 2019.

Henry was a long-time resident of Augusta and Thomson. He was the son of the late Robert Bernard Thomas, Sr and the late Blanche Tate Thomas. Henry was born in Augusta and attended the Academy of Richmond County. He retired from Augusta State University after a career managing the Maxwell Performing Arts Theater and acting as the Assistant Golf Coach for over thirty years.

Survivors include his wife, Jody Harshman Thomas; son, Joshua Thomas (Dottie) of Thomson, GA; daughter, Corie Thomas Johnson (Aaron) of Thomson, GA; 3 beloved grandchildren, Ridge Thomas Johnson, Josey Tate Johnson, and Henry Austin Thomas; brother Robert Bernard Thomas, Jr (Kim); sisters Mariann Bradley (Alden) and Caroline Schattschneider (Al-deceased) and his two faithful fur babies Lucy and Leeroy.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Southeast Hospice and especially to Mary Pat, Hollie, Jessica, Judy, Deena, Dusty & Tommy for their dedication and service caring for Henry.

The immediate family is planning a private service at Henry's favorite place on earth, Edisto Island, SC at a later date. There will be no local service.

Turlene D. Wells

Thomson, GA – Mrs. Turlene D. Wells, 76, of Happy Valley Rd., entered into rest July 14, 2019 at University Hospital.

Mrs. Wells was a native of McDuffie County, the daughter of the late Olin Dunevent and the late Agnes Irene Goldman Dunevent.  She enjoyed crafting including crochet, sewing, and quilting.

Survivors include her beloved husband, J.S. Wells; sons, Eddie Smith, Richard Smith, Carey Smith, and Howard Smith; stepchildren, Terry Tapley, Ronnie Wells, Michael Wells, Ann Birchfield, Wayne Wells and Jennifer Thompson; brothers, Joseph Dunevent, Richard Dunevent, and Manuel Dunevent; and numerous grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2019 in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Martin officiating.  Interment will follow in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Beggs Funeral Home.
