Linda G. Green

Thomson, GA - Linda G. Green, the first child of four children of the late James E. Green, Jr. and Doris Green was born June 22, 1965 in Emanuel County, Georgia. At an early age, Linda accepted Christ. She joined the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was an usher and a member of the Sunbeam and Youth Choirs. She enjoyed singing and serving in any capacity where needed.

She was a member of the 1983 graduating class of Swainsboro High School. Later, she matriculated at Fort Valley State College, Fort Valley, Georgia, where she received a B.S. Degree in Mass Communication.

Her career led her to: The McDuffie Progress,- Staff Writer, United Methodist News Service - News Writer, South Carolina United Methodist Advocate - Reporter, The Macon Courier - Reporter. Linda was recognized as an accomplished journalist and a recipient of The Donn Doten Award of Excellence for Writing as well as the United Methodist News Service Communicator’s Top Award for “Surviving Child Trust Offers Hope to Africa’s AIDS Orphans”, a story about AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe. The writing talent that God awarded Linda allowed her to have wonderful, exciting, and extensive travel experiences, both nationally and internationally. Through her work, on many occasions, she traveled across the United States and to multiple countries in Africa.

Linda rarely met a stranger. People were drawn to her and she had no problem talking to anyone. She was an avid reader of novels and absolutely loved to come home to Cross-Green Community during the holidays to spend time with her immediate and extended family.

Linda was granted eternal rest on Monday, January 27, 2020, at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, Georgia.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving mother, Doris Green; three brothers, Staff Sgt. (Retired) James Durrell Green, Warner Robins, Dr. Andre’ Green (Bevley) Saraland, Alabama, and Dr. Terry Green (LaCusia) Fishers, Indiana; two nieces, Terryn and Lauren Green; two nephews, Caleb and Andre’ Jr. (A.J.) Green; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life was held February 1, 2020 at Brinson Hill Baptist Church, Wadley, GA with Reverend Bennie Brinson, Presiding and Rev. Michael Thomas, Eulogist.

Betty Jean Jackson

Thomson, GA - Ms. Betty Jean Ivey Jackson, departed this life, as she knew it on January 29, 2020.

She leaves to cherish her legacy of love: a granddaughter, Taije B. McNair of Thomson, GA; two grandsons, Carlton Martin, Jr. and Kadarious Hobbs, both of Thomson, GA; two great-grandchildren, Josiah Martin of Warrenton, GA and Connor Bradshaw of Dearing, GA; three sisters, Cleo Felts, Lena Mae Ivey and Bobbie Jean Ivey, all of Thomson, GA; a son-in-law, Kevin Mcnair of Dallas, TX; one brother, Henry, Jr. (Ellene) Ivey of Thomson, GA; and a host of additional nieces, additional nephews, cousins, other relatives and many more sorrowing friends.

Dearing, GA - Taylor Funeral Home of Gibson announces the death and funeral services of Mrs. Lizzie Mae Johnson King, age 71, of Dearing, Ga, who died in her home surrounded by family, Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 30, 2020 in the Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Reese officiating and Mr. Barry Hyman eulogizing. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Justin Chalker, Pat Archer, A.J. Sleister, John Johnson, Russell Tharpe, and Wayne Johnson.

Mrs. King was the daughter of Charlie Johnson and Mary Catherine Whitehead. She was a seamstress for many years with Thomson Company and     was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church.

Lizzie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mike “Butch” King, brothers, Leroy Johnson, Riley Johnson & Robert Johnson, and 12 other siblings and is survived by her son, Tony Mills of Dearing, daughters, Yvonne Redfern & Anthony Treadwell of Thomson, Wanda & Pat Archer of Tennile, sister, Betty & Barry Hyman, of Norwood, grandchildren, Laura Martin, Shandi & Justin Chalker, Olivia Hall, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Those desiring, in lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 7359 Hamburg State Park Rd, Mitchell, GA 30820.
