Johnnie Mae Montgomery Harris

Wrens, GA - Mrs. Johnnie Mae Montgomery Harris, age 71,  a native of Thomson, GA a resident of Wrens, GA passed away on Sunday, January 31st, 2019 at the Jefferson Hospital in Louisville, GA.  The Celebration of Life Service honoring her life will be held on Wednesday, February 6th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greater Saint James A.M.E. Church in Thomson, GA with the pastor, Rev. David Walker as the Eulogist and the Rev. Samuel A. Cooper as the Presider.  The Interment will be in the Westview Cemetery, Thomson, GA.  The Repast will be held in the Greater Saint James A.M.E. Church Downstairs Unit following the burial.  The initial viewing of the body was held on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 from 12-7:00 p.m. resuming on Wednesday, February 6th, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  On the day of the service, the body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m.  The funeral procession will leave the funeral home, 505 Gordon Street NE, Thomson, GA at 1:30 p.m. for the service.

Thomson, GA – Mr. Charles Thomas Hanson, Sr., 72, entered into rest January 29, 2019.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Joanne Parris Hanson; sons, Tommy Hanson (Deborah) of Covington, GA, Clay Hanson (Casey) of Sevierville, TN, Rodney Price (Chalina) of Martinez, GA; daughters, Candy Beggs (Keith), Tonya Morris (Gene) all of Thomson, GA; sisters, Betty Poole of Nashville, TN, Charlotte Hinman (Larry) of Thomson, GA; grandchildren, Jeri Lyn Richards (Will), Jayla Sturkey, Chase Beggs (Nicole), Trey Hanson, Will Hanson, Chandler Price, Preston Price, Rebecca Hanson, Carrington Beggs, Skylar Akridge and Britlan Price; one great grandchild, Bennett Beggs; nephew, Clint Poole; and nieces, Angie Hanson Rogers, Kelli Hanson Poston, and Libby Powell Hutcheson.

Johnny Plamon Hobbs

Thomson, GA - Mr. Johnny Plamon Hobbs, age 90, entered into rest January 31, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Hobbs was born in Stapleton, Georgia, the son of the late Johnnie Lee Hobbs and the late Nettie Lou Landrum.  He grew up in Jefferson County, but later moved to Thomson, GA.  Mr. Hobbs served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was employed for over 40 years with the Thomson Company and retired as a Quality Supervisor.  He was an avid gardener and a member of the Zoar United Methodist Church.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hobbs was predeceased by his daughter, Rosemary Pinion; and sister, Mildred Hobbs Hadden.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Mildred Hobbs; daughters, Alecia Stewart (Rocky) of Wadley, GA and Sheila Morey (Clyde) of Thomson, GA; 6 grandchildren, Kara Morey (Clay), Nicholas Stewart (Melissa), Ashley Stewart Austin (Andrew), Taylor Morey Hobbs (Cory), Mallory Morey, and Shelby Morey; and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 2019 at Zoar United Methodist Church with Pastor Faye Burgamy and Rev. Don Black officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  

The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for all their kindness and care given to the family.

Minnie Lee Lewis

Punta Gorda, FL- Mrs. Minnie Lee Lewis, 70, formerly of Thomson, GA. entered into rest January 26, 2019.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Augusta, GA and was the daughter of the late Jessie Kirby and the late Ida Kirby. She lived in Thomson for many years and worked at Thomson Company and Chardan LTD before moving to Punta Gorda, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by Jessie Kirby, Ida Kirby, Brenda Lewis, Mary Swinson, Jessie Kirby, Jr., and Eddie Lewis.

Survivors include her children, Lewis Smith, Larry Smith, Melissa Carver and 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, GA.

Warrenton, GA - Jacqueline Murray went home to be with the Lord  January 27, 2019.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two loving sons Anthony and Omar Murray, her fabulous five grandchildren, Aaron, Nickolas, Journey, Omariah and Daija, one great grandson, Taj, her three sibling Maxine (Donald), Ruby (Larry) and Renee, her Aunt Betty (Stewart) Powell, her devoted friend Lloyd and Bernadine Robert, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services were held February 2, 2019 at Stamp Branch, Warrenton, GA.

Gibson, GA – Deputy Joshua “Josh” Bryan Ryer, Jr. 19, entered into rest January 29, 2019 while in the line of duty.

Survivors include his father, Joshua Ryer, Sr. (Lindsey Norris-Ryer) of Gibson, GA; mother, Sherry Ryer (Shane Kent) of Dearing, GA; sister, Sarah Ryer of Gibson; and grandparents, Bobbie Ryer and Bertha Prince.

Funeral services were held February 3, 2019 in the Glascock County High School Gymnasium with Pastor Bobby Smith officiating.
