Barbara Ann “Shug” Kemp entered into rest November 30, 2020.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memories: two children, Shantilla Kemp of Conyers, Georgia and William Porter, Jr., of Jewell, Georgia; five grandchildren, Tristen, Cody, Kyndal, Jacob, and Greyson; three brothers, Bruce (Kimberly Kemp/Margaret Underwood) Kemp, Tony Kemp, and Bruce (Cathy) Robert; three sisters, Celeste Young, Suzanne (Steve) Merriweather, and Charlene (Tracy) Reese; four aunts, Nancy Reynolds, Mildred (Gerald) Davis, Evelyn Reynolds, and Mamie Collins; five uncles, Willie B. (Linda) Kemp, Milton (Jerry Dean) Kemp, George (Rose) Reynolds, Tommy Reynolds, and Leon Reynolds and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside services were held December 5, 2020 at Thankful Baptist Church, Sparta, GA.

Left to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Candace Neal of Riverview, FL; four children, Tyler Neal, Brionna Neal, Braylen Neal and Ty’Anna Neal, all of Riverview, FL; a loving and devoted father, Rev. Dewayne (Marilyn) Cowins; a father, Johnny, Sr. (Carol) Neal; two sisters, Wyshonda Cowins and Tamika (Ronald) Danforth, all of Augusta, GA; a brother, Johnny Neal, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC; a grandmother, Beatrice Collier of Grovetown, GA; sixteen nieces and nephews, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Marsha Hamiliton Norman

Thomson, GA - Mrs. Marsha Norman was called home by the Lord on December 2, 2020.

She leaves to carry her legacy forward: a loving, dedicated and faithful husband, Mr. Mallory H. Norman of Thomson, GA; one daughter, Malita A. Jones of Thomson, GA; one son, Jamian M. Huff of Thomson, GA; three grandchildren, Elaunah J. Huff, Jacelyn A. Cooper and Bentley C. Huff, all of Thomson, GA; a loving mother, Mrs. Veronica Martin Hamilton of Thomson, GA; a mother-in-law, Mrs. Glenda K. Norman, of Lincolnton, GA; five sisters, Karen H. Kinsey, Andrea M. (Willie) Cummings, Maria Hamilton, all of Thomson, GA, Raquel (Roosevelt) Jones and Mrs. Kristen M. Reese, all of Warrenton, GA; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held December 5, 2020 at Westview Cemetery, Thomson, GA with Elder Jimmy Sturgis, Officiating.

Angela Putnam

Angela Jane Putnam

Thomson, GA- Angela Jane Putnam, 52, entered into rest Tuesday, December 1, 2020 in Augusta University Medical Center.  

Ms. Putnam was the daughter of Geraldine “Geri” McCormick Putnam and the late William “Bud” Putnam.  She was from Salinas, California, graduated from Salinas High School where she participated in FFA for 4 years, Angela later graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College with an associate’s degree in Science. She was employed with Walmart in the Bakery as cake decorator, with over 15 years of experience. Ms. Putnam has a contagious smile and loved everyone she came in contact with.  She spoke to everyone that came by the bakery at Walmart, and put her heart into decorating every cake that was ordered. Ms. Putnam was also a member of the Augusta Coin Club.    

Left behind to cherish her memories are her mother, Geraldine “Geri” McCormick Putnam, Thomson; and five sisters, Annette Putnam, Andi Roche (Barry), Sue Putnam, and April Medina (Antonio) all of Salinas, California and Alicia Farnham (Robert) of Volcano, California.

The family had a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 in the Beggs Funeral Home.  There will be no service schedule at this time.  

It is the family’s desire that in addition to floral offerings, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and the Lydia House of Augusta, Georgia.

Per CDC requirements the family will be observing social distancing.  Due to the current national health concern, the family would appreciate all phone calls, cards, texts, and e-mails.

Lucille Sims

Thomson, GA- Mrs. Lucille Sims, 96, died Sunday, December 6, 2020.

Due to Covid 19 concerns, a private graveside service for family only will be held in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.

Survivors include her two daughters, Carolyn Tanner, Thomson, and Barbara Hogan, Boneville; her two sons, Wayne (Cheryl) Sims and Butch (Tina) Sims, both of Thomson; her sister, Doris Faircloth, Thomasville, Ga.; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Margaret Smallwood Thompson

Thomson, GA - Mrs. Margaret Smallwood Thompson, 95, died Thursday, December 3, 2020, in the Lake Crossing Health Facility.

Due to Covid 19 concerns, a private graveside service for family only will be held in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Matt Ward officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Glascock County to Oscar and Annie Raley Smallwood. She graduated from Glascock County High School and worked various jobs in Gibson and Augusta before marriage to Everette Horace Thompson and they moved to Thomson. She retired from the Thomson Company after 43 years of service. She was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church for more than 75 years, where she served in various ministries, including the Bereavement Committee, which prepared and served food to Survivors of Families in the Church. She also coordinated Raley Family Reunions and Thomson Company Reunions for many years. She loved people, including her immediate family, extended family, church friends, neighbors, co-workers, and many others in the Glascock and McDuffie communities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.H. Thompson (1998); her brothers, Branson Smallwood and Ralph Smallwood; and her sister, Miriam Shelton. Survivors include her son, Larry Thompson (Sandra), Thomson; her sister, Becky Smallwood, Martinez; her grandchildren, Amy Lee Beckam (Jason), Decatur, Ga., Lee Anna Meadows, Dallas, Tx., and Mary Aycox (Steve), Thomson; her great-grandchildren,  Lauren Beckam, Anna Aycox, and Austin Aycox; her sister-in-law, Romette Smallwood; her nieces, Diane Shelton Waters, Cindy Shelton Komaka (Neal) and Judy Smallwood; and her nephew, Timothy Shelton (Lynn)

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ferguson Fund at Thomson First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1205, Thomson, Ga. 30824 or the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Lake Crossing Health and Morningside Assisted Living, her neighbors and friends.
