Thomson, GA – Mrs. Betty Jean Carter, 84,entered into rest August 25, 2019.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Johnnie “Pat” Carter; daughters, Betty Ann Rollins and Sarah Gail Carter; grandchildren, Heath Rollins, Chris Rollins and David Carter and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 27th at the Sharon Baptist Church Family Life Center with Rev. Andy Collins officiating.

Thomson, GA – Mr. Tommy Lamar Hinton, 76, entered into rest August 21, 2019.

Mr. Hinton, a lifelong resident of McDuffie County, GA, was the son of the late Edward Lamar Hinton and the late Mabel Combs Hinton. He contracted for The McDuffie Progress as a Dollar Saver Carrier in the Warrenton and Glascock County area for the past several years, worked at Western Auto, owned & operated a Phillips 66 service station, drove for Velstar, was a school bus driver, and retired as a Kiosk operator for Mistletoe State Park.  Mr. Hinton was a member of the First Baptist Church Men’s Outreach Sunday School class and attended Boneville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carla Howlett; son, Tommy Hinton (Gina) of Williamson, WV; daughters, Tammy Reese and Angela Tullis (Jason); stepsons, Marcus A. Wilson and Kyle A. Wilson; stepdaughters, Aubrey A. Cavitt and Mia E.F. Anderson; 9 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Boneville United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Miller officiating.

Floyd Adkins Montgomery, Jr.

Thomson, GA - Mr. Floyd Adkins Montgomery, Jr., 85, beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Jo Poss Montgomery, entered into rest Friday, August 23, 2019, at his residence.  He was the son of the late Floyd A. Montgomery and Beck Farrow Montgomery.  

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019 in the First Baptist Church of Thomson with the Rev. David Lambert officiating.  Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Montgomery was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County.  He was a graduate of Thomson High School and later a graduate of Georgia Tech with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Military Police.  He was retired from concrete sales.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomson, where he served as Deacon. He was actively involved, alongside his wife Jo, with Operation Christmas Child on a local level, as well as regionally.   He was the President of Montgomery Concrete, and Vice President of Claussen, Blue Circle, C.S.R., and Lafarge Concrete. He served on the McDuffie County Hospital Board and former President of Thomson Rotary Club. In his spare time he loved to build and craft dulcimers and banjos.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Poss Montgomery; Son, Scott Montgomery (Darlene), Woodstock, Ty Poss (Janet) and Guy Poss (Kelly), both of Thomson, and Ky Poss (Adell), Evans; grandchildren, Brandon Montgomery (Jessica), Woodstock, Nick Montgomery (Nikki), Kennesaw, Haylie Montgomery, Atlanta, Jake Montgomery, Kennesaw, Chris Rose, Arlington, Virginia, Jessica Seabolt (Shawn), Blue ridge, Suzanna Sutton (Alex), Lee Dupree (Crystal), Haley McGowan (Noah), Chloe Poss, Wesley and Chad Scruggs, Trey, Kyle and Brady Poss; great-grandchildren, Hudson Montgomery, Gunnar Montgomery, Myla Montgomery, Maddux Montgomery, Presley Seabolt, Aiden, Sarahann and Austin Sutton, Lee and Lily Dupree, and Dex McGowan.

Pallbearers will be Blake Harrison, Jimmy Pearson, Lee Dupree, Brandon Montgomery, Nick Montgomery, Chris Rose, and Jake Montgomery.

Pansy Mae Franklin Moss

Warrenton, GA - Mrs. Pansy Mae Franklin Moss, age 83

To forever cherish her memories, she leaves behind: one daughter, Vera Gunn of Warrenton, Georgia; four sons, Leroy Moss, Robert (Deborah) Moss, Billy (Mamie) Moss and Darlyn Moss, all of Norwood, Georgia; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eula Mae Berry and Fronie A. Franklin, both of Warrenton, GA, many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Services will be held at 12:00 PM on August 29, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Norwood, GA with Rev. Kenneth Hannah, Pastor, Eulogist, / Min. Patricia Lazenby, Presider.

Jeffrey Mark Poston, Sr.

Thomson, GA - Mr. Jeffrey Mark "Jeff" Poston, Sr. age 57 entered into rest Saturday August 24, 2019 at the Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M.  Saturday August 31, 2019 at the residence of Tina and Butch Sims 3386 Sandhill Road Thomson with Pastor Charles Land officiating.

Mr. Poston, a native of Arlington, VA was the son of the late Martha Virginia Duncan Poston and Amos Dabney Poston. Jeff grew up and attend school in Bowman, GA before moving as a adult  to Thomson many years ago.  He was a retired carpenter and a Baptist.  His family said, he will be remembered as a "jack of all trades" and a avid gardener and fisherman.

Survivors include his sons, Jeffrey Mark Poston, Jr. and Daniel Alexander (Alecia) Poston, three sisters, Jill Anderton, Toni Crane, and Tina (Butch) Sims, a brother, Jimmy (Vicky McGarity, a sister in law, Sylvia McGarity and 3 grandchildren.  Mr. Poston was preceded in death by a brother, Terry McGarity.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the residence.


Joseph Sterling Wells, Jr.

Dearing, GA – Mr. Joseph Sterling Wells, Jr., 80, of Iron Hill Rd., entered into rest August 20, 2019.

Survivors include his sons, Ronnie Wells (Paula), Michael Wells (Janet), and Wayne Wells: daughters, Terry Tapley, Ann Birchfield, and Jennifer Thompson (Mike); brothers, Hugh Wells, Allen Wells, David Wells and Tony Wells; sisters Jeanette English, Joyce Newsome, Linda Reese, Karen Whitaker, and Debbie Burton; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held, August 23, 2019 in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
