A Mitchell woman was released from the McDuffie County jail after posting a $30,000 bond for aggravated assault after attempting to run over three people with her car.
According to the Thomson Police Department, Tykeria L. Ruff, 24, of the 3300 block of Baker Road, was involved in an argument with six people at the intersection of Pecan Ave. and Willow Street on Jan. 2 at approximately 6:32 p.m. Ruff told police that when the argument worsened, she and another woman left the scene and went to a Willow Street home in the 1020 block. Once there, Ruff realized that she’d left her vehicle near the scene of the argument. She retrieved her vehicle and noted that some of the people she’d argued with had moved from the intersection to a neighboring home. She reported to police that when she drove into the yard of the home where those involved in the argument had gathered she attempted to run over three people and then parked her car.
The police incident reports indicated that the men and women she attempted run over ran across the street to Ruff’s car, and armed with bats, broke the windows of the car. One of the women attacked Ruff. After the altercation, Ruff reportedly grabbed a bat and ran across the street and broke the back window of one of her antagonist’s cars.
According to police, the woman who initially left the scene with Ruff reported that she and Ruff had been chased by a group of eight to 10 people.
Following an investigation that was filled with inconsistent statements from those involved in the altercation, false statements from who was present and not present and continued denial, Ruff was placed into custody and transported to the McDuffie County Jail. She was charged with three counts of aggravated assault. She spent five days in jail before posting a $30,000 bond and was released.
