The McDuffie School System reported that some reliable information was provided to school officials this morning, Nov. 14, that a Thomson-McDuffie Middle School student may be in possession of a weapon. Because of this tip, the school resource officer proactively met the pupil immediately upon the student’s arrival at the school. The school resource officer confiscated the weapon, which was never shown to others or used in a threatening manner. All students and staff are safe.
As with all matters of student safety, we have taken this very seriously and have acted accordingly, utilizing both the code of conduct disciplinary recourse and the appropriate laws. Thomson-McDuffie Middle School would like to assure everyone that the school administrative team, in collaboration with the district office and the McDuffie County Schools Department of Public Safety, is working to maintain the safety and the normal operations throughout the remainder of the school day.
Please encourage your child to let an adult know if a situation exists which could compromise his/her safety. If you see something, say something.
As always, the safety and security of the students, faculty and staff members remain our top priority, and we will take the necessary steps to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
