Thomson Police last week charged a Warrenton man who had been wanted in connection with a Nov. 14 shooting outside Premier Packaging.

Gary Barnail Wilcher, of an address in the 1600 block of Wire Road, was arrested Dec. 28 and charged with aggravated assault, possession of firearm or knife during commission of certain felonies, and probation violation for fingerprintable offense.

Warrenton Police took Wilcher into custody after a traffic stop. At press time Tuesday, Wilcher was still being held in the McDuffie County Jail with bond set at $20,000.

He is charged with the shooting of an employee outside Premier Packaging. Wilcher’s brother and the victim had gotten into an argument at work. The brother was waiting outside for Wilcher to arrive and pick him up after being told by a supervisor to go home.

Wilcher arrived and at some point started firing shots at the victim, who was hit by gunfire twice while running away. The wounded man was taken to Augusta University Hospital by McDuffie County EMS. Police deemed the injuries sustained by the victim as non-life threatening.

Officers taped off the crime scene and an investigator responded. The investigator found five spent 9mm shell casings and interviewed witnesses, which provided the name of the suspect.
