Ivery’s Restaurant is hosting the American Legion Post 312 Veteran’s Day Meal on Thursday, Nov. 11 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

According to Johnny Norris, this is the second year the American Legion is hosting a meal for veterans in the area.

“We just like to do it for our veterans,” Norris said.

Norris added that the main purpose of the American Legion is to serve the veterans in the Thomson area, and this meal is a way to thank them for their service. According to Norris, this is the first year this event is being held at Ivery’s, and it was previously held at the American Legion building.

“Any and all vets are welcome,” Norris said. “We encourage vets to join American Legion.”

The Veteran’s Day meal didn’t happen last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and they started their regular meetings back up recently. Norris added that they want to show the veterans the recognition they deserve. American Legion is a part of the community here in Thomson.

“We help with things in the community,” Norris said.

American Legion offers all kinds of different things. There is an American Legion baseball team, and they provide transportation as well, according to Norris. Norris said American Legion tries to provide anyway they can, and in ways that will benefit the community. According to Norris, the American Legion was in Thomson before, and Norris felt it was a good idea to get it started once again.

“I wanted to try and start American Legion back up in Thomson,” Norris said.
