TPD officers learned how to help with the opioid overdose epidemic through training.

On January 18, officers from the Thomson Police Department participated in the State Opioid Adapted Response (SOAR) class to learn the best practices to combat opioid overdoses.

“It has become a tragic reality that all too many families, from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, are familiar with,” said TPD Chief Courtney Gale. “There are a number of factors that can be considered contributing factors but rather than placing blame, a more solution-based approach has begun to gain traction amongst public health officials, law enforcement, and judicial bodies. The ultimate goal is prevention through education, informed investigative approaches to seek the source, and a sustainable rehabilitation process. Collaboration is key for successful outcomes.”
