Multiple public safety departments came together in Dearing last Tuesday for National Night Out. Area churches also participated and participants had a wide selection of games, food, and activities.

Becky Craven, one of the organizers, asked McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall to speak to the crowd.

“I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for coming out to National Night Out,” the sheriff said. “We can’t do our job without you. I just want to let you know how important the public and the citizens are to us in McDuffie County.”

“I think we have a good relationship. Thank you very much for coming out tonight,” Marshall added.

Following the brief comments from the sheriff, Mario Pinkston provided a few motivational comments about the Dearing community and then performed a song. Craven later drew names and distributed door prizes. Even though this National Night Out was in Dearing, the Thomson Police Department participated.

There was an earlier National Night Out in Thomson at the start of the school year, and many of the same entities involved chose to participate in both to better serve the community.
