Wednesday afternoon around 6:20 p.m., a 31-year-old woman was wounded when a man tried to shoot a dog on Hillman-Gay Road in Dearing.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, deputies arrived and found Georgia Wiseman wounded. She sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to Doctor’s Hospital by Thomson-McDuffie County EMS. She is currently being treated for her injuries, as of late Wednesday afternoon, according to the GBI.
The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI’s assistance with the case and agents responded to the 4500 block of Hillman-Gay Road.
According to a statement from GBI Special Agent in Charge Pat Morgan, preliminary information revealed that a female neighbor of Wiseman was being attacked by a dog when a male neighbor retrieved a firearm from his residence. The male neighbor then attempted to shoot the dog with the firearm. One of the rounds from the firearm struck Wiseman causing her injuries.
The female neighbor who was attacked by the dog refused medical treatment at the scene, according to Morgan.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI at 706-595-2575 or the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office at 706-595-2145.
In reference to the dog, a second individual was bitten by the dog later at the same location.
McDuffie County Animal Control responded and searched for the dog but could not locate it at that time. The dog was finally located inside a home and animal control has mandated that it be kept inside for 10 days. The investigation is on-going.
