Glascock County Consolidated School announced one of its seniors as the Glascock County STAR Student for the 2020-2021 school year.
Nadira Muhammad was selected as the STAR Student and she chose Coach Matt Swint as her STAR Teacher. Her parents are Kelvin and Amy Muhammad.
This program is promoted by The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE). The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is an award that has honored roughly 28,000 students and the teachers they have chosen who have had the most influence on them and their academic achievements, or made the most impact.
The STAR program is in its 63rd year, and it goes to the student who is in the top 10 percent of their class, or is in the top 10 in grade point average (GPA) of their class, and that student must have the highest SAT score as well.
According to Muhammad, she felt excitement once she found out she was the STAR Student.
“I’m very excited and honored,” Muhammad said.
One reason why she chose Coach Swint as her STAR Teacher was because of the encouragement he gives her, she said.
“He’s always encouraged me to do my best,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad said her favorite subject in school is science, biology and chemistry to be exact.
As for her college plans, Muhammad said she plans on attending Tuskegee University. She plans on majoring in biology.
“It’s deep history and academics,” Muhammad said as to why she chose Tuskegee University.
According to Muhammad, she likes to look at different things during her free time, outside of school.
“I like to pursue different things outside of what I’m being taught,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad said she also played basketball for Glascock County.
