Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents work with Sheriff Joe Peebles and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at the crime scene.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in a double homicide investigation.

Deputies were dispatched at about 10:13 to a home in the 5100 block of Mitchell Road to a reported unresponsive person.

When deputies arrived they found two deceased bodies at the address. Those were Troy Bennett, 72; and Cheryl Newsome, 72; of Mitchell. Both lived at the home, and the bodies were found inside the home.

By about 10:30, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office contacted the GBI Region 7 Field Office for assistance with the investigation. Morgan said his office responded with seven agents, including two crime scene specialists.

According to GBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick Morgan, the victims’ remains will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.
