Fleeing a traffic stop on Martin Luther King Jr. Street, fighting on Mendel Ave. and being near drugs on Anderson Ave. resulted in the arrest of a Thomson man June 18.
Kintavious K. Rivers, 23, of the 300 block of Mendel Ave., has been charged by the Thomson Police Department for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, improper passing, driving without a valid license, speeding, criminal trespass, possession and use of drug-related objects, marijuana possession and cocaine possession with intent to distribute.
According to Thomson Police Lt. Don Hilson, at approximately 8 p.m., June 14, a patrol officer attempted to make a traffic stop in the 900 block of Martin Luther King Street. He said the driver fled the stop and abandoned the car a few blocks away on Whitehead St. Hilson said Rivers was soon identified as the driver of the vehicle and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.
Days later, on June 18 at approximately 5:45 p.m., a police officer responded to a disturbance at an address in the 300 block of Mendel Ave. to find that Rivers had been involved in an altercation with a person at the home. According to Hilson, Rivers had already left the scene when the officer arrived but in a previous incident at the location, Rivers had been advised by the patrol officer to not to return to the Mendel Ave. location.
Later that evening, the patrol officer spotted Rivers in the 500 block of Anderson Ave and Rivers was arrested. “Marijuana and cocaine were located near Rivers along with a set of scales,” Hilson said. A warrant for the drug and scales were also obtained and Rivers was charged with possession, Hilson said.
Rivers was transported to the McDuffie County Jail and bond has not been set.
