The driver of this Acura MDX ran into a fence on June 24, trying to elude Georgia State Patrol troopers at a checkpoint.

A driver trying to avoid a checkpoint led Georgia State Patrol troopers in a chase that ended with a wreck and a foot pursuit across a field on June 24.

Around 3:40 p.m. on Monday, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Matt Baxley said Gary Ivey, of Thomson, came upon a sobriety checkpoint along Mesena Road. Instead of stopping, Baxley said Ivey fled in an Acura MDX on Starr Hinson Road and then to Howell Young Road, with troopers in pursuit.  Ivey ran into a fence, got out of the vehicle he occupied, and fled on foot into a field. Baxley said troopers were able to capture Ivey and he reported that Ivey had no injuries.

Baxley said Ivey would be charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, and driving under a suspended license. Ivey was transported to the McDuffie County jail. His bond was set at $4,200.00
