Dogs defeat Panthers in overtime: face Titans in third round
By Jim Wallace

Jacorey Crawford ran 65 yards for Thomson’s first touchdown.
The Thomson Bulldogs advanced to the third round of the Class AAA state playoffs Friday night after a missed extra-point kick in overtime gave Thomson a 35-34 win against the Americus-Sumter Panthers.
The victory meant the Dogs would host the Blessed Trinity Titans, who scored a huge upset over No. 1-ranked and defending state champion Cartersville Friday night.
Both teams opened the night’s scoring with long runs for scores.
Thomson’s came on their first possession as Jacorey Crawford raced 65-yards for the score.
Americus took their second possession and Kobe Lewis scored on a 65-yard run.
The two teams went into halftime ties at 14. Lewis scored on a 53-yard run with three minutes left in the half.
Thomson had 343 yards of offense, with Bubba Murray leading the way with 123 yards on 17 carries.
Head Coach Rob Ridings said the Dogs beat a good football team.
“We thought going in that it might come down to something like this (overtime),” he said,
“I was very proud of our kids and they did one heck of a job.”
When asked the difference in the game, Ridings said Thomson’s will to win.
“I don’t think our kids ever thought they were out of it,” Ridings said.
“Americus had some great players and we just stayed strong.”
Ridings said the game was one where both teams were equal along the way with yardage and big plays.
“We were fortunate to come out on top,” Ridings said.
Tickets for Friday night’s 7:30 p.m. game are $12 and will be available at the gate. There will be a Dog Walk at 5:30 p.m. at The Brickyard to support the Bulldogs as they arrive for the game.
