Bubba Murray scored three touchdowns as the Thomson Bulldogs manhandled the Cross Creek Razorbacks 44-14 Friday night at The Brickyard.
“We prepared the way we prepare each week,” said head coach Rob Ridings.
“We got our young guys in and we did what we had to do … Our kids realized that Cross Creek was struggling and, face it, they knew who was next, Burke County.”
The victory means the No. 3-ranked Dogs (7-0) prepare for a head-on collision with the No. 5-ranked Burke County Bears (8-0) in Waynesboro Friday night for the Region 3-AAAA Championship.
The Bulldogs put the Razorbacks away quickly, building a 44-7 lead by halftime. After halftime, the game was played with a running clock, allowing reserves to play most of the half.
Murray scored on runs of 2, 4 and 11 yards, and Tyrek Braswell, THS’ leading rusher on the night with 62 yards, scored on a 2-yard run.
Mills Ridings threw for close to 100 yards, including a 27-yard pass to Jacorey Crawford.
Thomson’s defense added points on a 21-yard interception return by Crawford and a safety when the Dogs tackled the Cross Creek punter in the end zone.
