Red Oak Manor & Acorn Restaurant celebrates 10 years
By Caitlin Boland

The Meyer family and Red Oak Manor staff cut the ribbon to celebrate 10 years in business.
Red Oak Manor recently celebrated a decade in business.
“When we purchased the property it was the house and a carport,” said Murle Meyer, co-owner of Red Oak Manor. “This [the restaurant] is the carport. We closed it in and added a little on for the kitchen.”
The Acorn restaurant opened in October 2008, but the bed and breakfast began housing overnight guests in March 2008.
“About five weeks after we purchased the house, we began having parties outside and on the bottom floor,” Meyer said. “All we had to do on the bottom floor was pretty work.”
In the upstairs, the owners had to remodel a bathroom and they also added two more to coincide with the four bedrooms upstairs. There is also a room downstairs that is handicap accessible.
Meyer said the building, which was built in the 1880s, was a private residence until she and her husband, Kenneth, purchased it. They decided to name the building Red Oak Manor because of the vast amount of red oak trees in the front and back yards.
“When we opened the restaurant, we decided to name it the Acorn because the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree,” Meyer said.
The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is served until approximately 10:30 a.m., and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant then closes and reopens from 5 to 8:30 p.m. for dinner Monday through Friday.
The Meyers’ oldest daughter, Renee Meyer-Dean, is the main chef for the restaurant. Meyer said the cooking at the Acorn is traditional home-cooking, and she added that all of the sauces used in the cooking are made in-house.
