Gerald D. Griswell
Gerald Darwin Griswell, 74, entered into rest June 24, 2017, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Griswell was born in Mitchell, GA, to the late Lester Griswell and the late Georgia Walden Griswell. He lived in Dearing for many years and was a retired equipment operator with the McDuffie County Road Department. Mr. Griswell was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Griswell was predeceased by his wife, Jean Griswell and brother, Leroy Griswell.
Survivors include his daughters, Sherri Washington of Harlem, GA, Jeana Kitchens of Gibson, GA; brothers, James Griswell of Wrens, GA, Tommy Griswell of Thomson, GA, Bobby Griswell of Alabama; sisters, Donna Thigpen of Wrens, GA, Cherry Tbanez of Missouri, Gloria Beckworth of Gibson, GA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in the chapel of Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ralph Kitchens officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to and following the memorial service.

Eugenia Tankersley Bufford
Eugenia Tankersley Bufford, 82, entered into rest June 22, 2017, at her residence.
Mrs. Bufford was born in Winfield, Georgia, to the late Edward Allen Tankersley and the late Viola B. Tankersley Dozier.  She was a retired secretary from Thomson High School and jailer at Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department.  Mrs. Bufford was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Richard R. Jones and W.A. (Shorty) Bufford; sister, Linda T. Jordan; brother, C. Allen Tankersley Sr.; grandson, Tony Jones; granddaughter, Crystal Jones; and great grandson Axel Jones.
Survivors include daughters Laura Wartella (John) of Brazoria, TX, Hattie Bullard of Grovetown, GA, and Marie Harrell (Rick) of Appling, GA; son, Ricky Jones (Tina) of Appling, GA; brother, Larry M. Tankersley of Appling, GA; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Angel and Jamie for being her caretakers.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Winfield, Georgia, with the Rev. Kim Webb and the Rev. Shirley Swarez  officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A time of visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Julianne Shields Dixon
Julianne Shields Dixon, 83, widow of the late Mr. Robert Dixon, entered into rest Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Julian Shields and Mrs. Lucile Wade Shields. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 22, 2017, in Westview Cemetery with the Rev. David Lambert officiating.
Mrs. Dixon was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County. She was a retired bank teller with the Bank of Thomson. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomson, where she was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class and past church pianist. She was a member of Kiwanis Club of Thomson, where she was club pianist and a Hixon Fellow. She played for many funerals, weddings, church and social gatherings her entire life.
Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Robin Thigpen and an infant sister, Nancy Jane Shields. She is survived by three daughters, Lucie Wills (Joe), Mimi Dent (Doug) and Jane Fredericks (Clark), all of Thomson; 6 grandchildren, Bob (Robin Anne) Wills, Anne (Dillon) Bowers, Andrew (Christine) Coxwell, Rachel Coxwell, Wade Thigpen, and Sara (Luke) Leviner; and 3 great-grandchildren, Riley Kate Wills, Ellis Wills, and Hampton Wills. The members of Thomson Kiwanis Club will be honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Go and Tell Mission Fund at First Baptist Church of Thomson.

Betty Jean Bell Daniels
Betty Jean Bell Daniels, 67, of 605 Holt Street, Thomson passed on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at her residence. Family and friends may call at the residence or the funeral home Thomson Funeral System, 505 Gordon St. NE Thomson.
Visitation was held at Thomson Funeral System on June 26 and 27, and funeral services were held at 9 a.m. June 27 at the Church of Christ in Warrenton with Minister Rodney Daniels and Pastor Dr. Eric McCreary officiating. Burial followed at Cody Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Thomson Funeral System is in charge of arrangements.

Troy Miles
Troy Dewayne Miles was born July 1, 1965, to the late James D. Grier and the late Ella L. Miles.
At an early age, he joined the United House of Prayer for All People. He was educated in the public school system of McDuffie County and graduated in 1984. He was employed by Thomson Roofing for 30 years, and was a member of the 8th District Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association, Inc.
Troy Miles was united in Holy Matrimony to Shameka Brinson on March 13, 1999.
Troy had a passion for fishing, loved sports and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He touched the lives of countless young children. For many years, he coached football and basketball for the Thomson-McDuffie County Recreation Department and DT Elite.
Troy was a devoted and loving father, coach, mentor, co-worker and friend. He always wore a smile, and he never met a stranger.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Shameka Miles; 5 children, Jaquill Kipp Miles, TaShawn Boyd, TreBrenton Miles, Tyriek Miles and Briceton Miles; his aunt/mother, Betty Roberts; devoted father and mother-in law, Sammie & Eleanor Wilson; six loving sisters, Benita (Rodney) Brown, Selina Miles, Sonji Richardson, Gina Smith, Shelia (Marion) Hill and Monica (Walter) Cutter; four brothers, Shawn (Sherry) Miles, Cedric (Brenda) Hobbs, Patrick (Francesca) Hobbs and Johnny Walker; uncles, Willie (Geneva) Miles and Bobby Grier; two aunts, Mattie Nelson and Dorenda Grier; close friends, Tim Heard, Derrick Heath, Paula Jenkins and Rasheeda Wheeler; two special cousins, Rodney Grier and Corey Grier; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
The viewing took place Wednesday, June 28, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at D. T. Brown Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation was held at Springfield Baptist on June 28 at 6 p.m.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Thomson High School

Malcolm L. “Mickey” Baxley
Malcolm L. “Mickey” Baxley, 70, husband of Betty W. Baxley, entered into rest on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Powell Baptist Church with the Dr. Randall Whitaker officiating. Interment followed in South Harlem Memorial Gardens.
Mickey was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to the late James Baxley and Leona Lee Baxley. He was a Master Plumber by trade. As an avid sportsman, he loved teaching kids how to hunt, fish and ski.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Baxley; two sons, Matt Baxley (Lauren) and Gerald Baxley; one daughter, Melissa Edwards (Michael); two brothers, Billy Baxley (Jan) and Wayne Baxley; four sisters, LeeEtta Simmons (Bennett), Betty Hollis (the late Bobby Hollis), Fran Dixon (Dave), and Diane Bridges; eight grandchildren, Taylor, Ansley, Easton, Heather, Stefan, Josh, David and Johnny; and one great-grandchild, Emersyn.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Baxley.
