Three THS basketball players sign scholarships
By Caitlin Boland

Thursday was a big day for three Thomson High School basketball players as they signed to continue their careers.
Rodriquez Wiley, Darius Turman and Radaren Johnson, who have played basketball all four years at THS, helped lead the Bulldogs to a third round appearance in the GHSA AAAA state tournament during the 2016-17 season.
Wiley will become a Reinhardt University Eagle. Reinhardt, located in Waleska, Georgia, competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. According to MaxPreps, during Wiley’s senior season he averaged 7.4 points per game, scored 208 and had a 73 percent free throw percentage.
“They [Reinhardt] wanted me really bad,” Wiley said. “The campus looked nice, and the team looked good. It means a lot to me to be able to play basketball in college because a lot of my family didn’t get to. I also want to follow in my uncle’s footsteps, playing football at Georgia Southern and now trying out for the Seattle Seahawks.”
Turman signed to play at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee. The Cleveland State Cougars compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association.
During Turman’s senior year, he averaged 12.5 points per game, scored 349 points and had a free throw percentage of 59 percent, according to MaxPreps.
“I was offered a full scholarship, and I really liked the campus,” Turman said. “The small campus will help me stay focused on my grades and help me to move on to do great things. It will help develop my game and me. It means a lot to be able to play in college because I love the sport and want to continue to do it for the rest of my life.”
Johnson will become an Olive Harvey Panther.
