Bulldogs get ready for Columbus Blue Devils in first round of state playoffs
By Jim Wallace

The Bulldogs, victorious in 13 of their last 17 games, charge toward Columbus and the Blue Devils Friday in the first round of the state playoffs.
Thomson has its bats and gloves aimed at one of the best baseball programs in state as they take on the Columbus Blue Devils beginning Friday.
The Bulldogs finished in third place in Region 3-AAAA with a 14-9, 6-4 record.
Burke County took first place and Cross Creek came in the third spot. Finishing behind the Dogs, in order, was: Baldwin, Richmond Academy, and Hephzibah.
The best-of-three series against Columbus will begin at 2 p.m. Admission is $12 for the double header. If a tiebreaker game is needed Saturday, it is believed the game will start at 2 p.m., and admission is $7.
The winner of the series will face either Cartersville or Blessed Trinity.
Thomson head coach Brad Smith knows that the Columbus High School Blue Devils, 15-11, 9-4 and the No. 2 seed from Region 1, will give the Diamond Dogs all they want.
“They are in what is arguably one of the toughest regions in the state for baseball,” said Smith.
