A life-long dream came true for Briarwood senior Will Johnson on April 13.
Johnson accepted his appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the Class of 2021.
This means absolutely everything to me, Johnson said. Its a life-long dream come true. Ive always wanted to a pilot, and while I was looking at colleges, I kept that goal in mind. Going to the Air Force Academy is the best way I can accomplish that goal.
In the Briarwood Academy media center, surrounded by friends, family, teachers, coaches and many other special guests, Johnson signed his pledge of commitment to the Air Force Academy, ending an almost six-year process.
This all started about six year ago, said Charlie Newton, McDuffie County Board of Commissioners chairman, Air Force Academy graduate (Class of 1989) and the area liaison for this area. It takes a lot of hard work, and the person who made this happen is Will. He is strong not only in academics but also in athletics and in the community. Without of all of that you wont get into the academy. Ive been doing this for a long time, and I think this is the earliest appointment Ive ever seen.
