Dogs open season with shutout over Lincoln County

The Thomson Diamond Dogs broke open the 2017 season with a 10-0 win over Lincoln County at Bulldog Field Monday night, Feb. 13.
On a night when many in the stands were wrapped up in blankets, the Class AAAA Bulldogs wrapped up the neighboring Class A Red Devils with 12 hits in a game. The game was called on the mercy rule.
Thomson broke open the game in the third when three runs crossed the plate. They added three more in the fourth and a single run in the fifth. The game was called in the sixth when THS put three more runs on the board.
Malik Frails led the Dogs, going 3-for-4 and knocked in a run. Cade Brown and Dakota Gergen both went 2-for-3. Gergen knocked in three runs, and Brown knocked in two runs. Garrett McClure cracked in three runs for THS.
Cade Brown got the win on the mound, pitching four innings, striking out seven and surrendering a hit. Brannon Gregory had two innings of work, striking out four and giving up a hit.
On Wednesday night, Aquinas battled the Bulldogs. Friday, Harlem hits Bulldog Field at 6 p.m., and then Dogs travel to Harlem on Thursday, Feb. 23, for a 5:30 game.
