The Briarwood Academy Board of Trustees announced on Feb. 9 that they have reached $1.67 million in written gifts and pledges as well as $30,000 in verbal commitments. The combined gifts and pledges exceed the $1.7 million capital campaign goal.
"Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the campaign including those who gave in support of the Hammond Challenge and those who gave in loving memory of Peggy Whitt," the board said. "All of these gifts made our expansion project a reality!"
Because the capital campaign reached its goal with less than 165 gifts out of a donor pool of more than 1,000 people, the trustees said the original project is poised to expand, including a separate cafeteria. Briarwood's development officer Mary Lester is coordinating fundraising efforts to raise the additional $200,000 needed for the cafeteria.
Over the next month, students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff will be conducting a phone-a-thon and letter campaign to solicit the extra funds needed for the cafeteria. Gifts can be made online via the Campaign tab of the Briarwood website or mailed directly to the school. Pledges can be submitted and paid over 2017 and 2018.
For more information, contact Briarwood at 706-595-5641. A groundbreaking ceremony and reception will be held March 2 at 2:45 p.m.
