Davon Crockett, a senior at Thomson High School, will represent Georgia on the 2017 East Conference Track and Field Team in the Down Under International Games in July 2017.
Thomson High School senior Davon Crockett has been invited to represent Georgia in the Down Under Sports Competition this summer.
Crockett will be a part of the 2017 Georgia East Conference Track and Field Team, and he will leave for Queensland, Australia, on July 3.
Down Under Sports was founded in February 1989 based on the dream of a New Zealand man named George O’Scanlon.
According to the organization’s press release for Crockett, O’Scanlon fell in love withe athletics, especially American football growing up in New Zealand. He started the Down Under Bowl to promote football across the world, and the bowl game soon turned into the Down Under Hoops Classic and finally into the Down Under International Games.
Down Under Sports consists of wrestling, football, cross country, golf, track and field, basketball and volleyball.
“Down Under Sports’ goal is to continue to provide athletes who excel in their sport the opportunity to experience culture, beauty and grandeur of the land down under all within the framework of spirited and intense competition,” the press release said.
As part of the program, Crockett will have to raise funds to pay for the nine-day Australia Tournament Package. A major source of funding for the trip comes from voluntary contributions from friends, family and business sponsors.
The three ways to donate are:
•Paying online at www.DownUnderSports.com/payment;
•Making a check payable to “Down Under Sports” and mailing it in along with the sponsorship letter; or
•Paying by phone at 435-753-4732.
For more information about Down Under Sports or how to sponsor Crockett, call 435-753-4732 or visit www.DownUnderSports.com.
