The Chief Deputy of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an altercation that involved a gun during a Christmas party at his residence.

Special Agent in Charge Pat Morgan said that the GBI was contacted by Warren County Sheriff Joe Peebles to investigate Sammy Purvis, who allegedly pointed his firearm at a person attending a Christmas party at his home late Dec. 13 and early Dec. 14.

“A complaint was filed with the Sheriff's Office in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 14 by an individual who had attended a Christmas Party at the residence earlier that evening,” Morgan said.

“The complainant reported that an altercation took place during which Deputy
Purvis allegedly pointed his firearm at the complainant,” he said.

The case is still ongoing and upon its completion will be turned over to the District Attorney's Office for review, the agent added.

Purvis said the investigation prohibits him from speaking.

“Since the incident is under investigation, I cannot publicly comment,” he said. “All questions are being turned over to the GBI.”
