Public forum to be held on privatization of county's solid waste department
By Linda Green

The McDuffie County Commission will conduct a public forum on the efforts to privatize the county's Solid Waste Department on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Government Center and invites residents to attend.
The commission made that decision for the public forum on Aug. 19 when a large number of people attended the public input phase of its meeting to express concern about the transfer station since discussion of the bids for the solid waste privatization was on the agenda. "With the many people here tonight that have questions about what we have been considering, it is probably prudent that we have a public forum so that everyone who has a question, answered and to talk back and forth with us about what is being considered at the transfer station," said Commission Chairman Charlie Newton.
The audience was told that a forum would be ideal for allowing the community to receive correct information about solid waste privatization. "The forum will be the place to learn what the board is considering so that no one in the community is misinformed about what it is that we would like to accomplish," he said. "The bottom line is the lowest rate and the best services for the citizens of McDuffie County."
