• Briarwood struggles early, ready for regular season
By Wayne Parham

Briarwood Academy’s varsity softball team has struggled in preseason action this year but Coach Hannah DeMore is optimistic as her team heads into the regular schedule.
Going into this week Briarwood was winless. They girls had completed seven games while several others were not completed due to weather.
Monday afternoon’s debut at home found the Briarwood girls falling to John Milledge Academy 16-3 in a game which was called early due to the run rule.
“Today they just hit against us. And, we just didn’t hit back,” said DeMore.
The loss marked Briarwood’s eighth defeat of the preseason. John Milledge is a AAA team while Briarwood is AA.
Tuesday, the Lady Bucs faced Edmund Burke Academy. It is Briarwood’s final preseason game. No results were available at press time.
“Our first game that counts is Thursday against Brentwood. That’s a region game,” said DeMore following the Monday loss. “We played them in summer ball and I really feel like it’s going to be a good game.”
