• Pro player conducts basketball camp
By Jim Wallace

It was fun and fundamentals at a basketball camp last week.
Close to a dozen youngsters took part in Elite Basketball Camp presented by Monique “Mo Show” Martin, who plays the position of shooting guard professionally in Puerto Rico.
Held at the Sweetwater Park Gym, the camp, for boys and girls ages 8-15, taught the basics.
“We stressed fundamentals and attitude,” said Martin, who on Monday, returned to pro basketball. “We worked with them to also help them get better at the level they are at.”
Martin said the children were anxious to get better.
“We also talked about school issues and how to approach challenges,” she said. “I worked to encourage them to be better in the classroom and on the basketball court so they can move on to the next level.”
Martin said she also talked with the kids about being thankful for opportunities, which was the spirit she felt being able to return to the sport she loved.
