Crash kills one
By Jim Wallace

A Monday afternoon crash in western McDuffie County claimed the life of a Gibson man.
Nicholas Turnow, 22, of Gibson, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Georgia State Patrol’s Public Information Office.
Georgia State Patrol personnel on the scene said the crash occurred just before 4:45 p.m., at the intersection of Hwy. 17 and Happy Valley Road.
A loaded log truck was southbound on Hwy. 17 when an eastbound Chevrolet Blazer driven by Turnow entered the intersection and was struck by the log truck, said troopers. The log truck and Chevrolet continued southbound through a fence and ended up in a field.
Brian Brantley, of Sandersville, said he witnessed the wreck.
“I saw the Blazer come up to the stop sign and come through it,” said Brantley. “The log truck then struck the Chevrolet. It was a horrible sound.”
