First Citizens Bank now under new ownership

A local bank has a new owner, sort of.
First Citizens Bank on Main Street, a branch of First Citizens Bank and Trust, based in Columbia, S.C. will soon be owned by First Citizens Bank of North Carolina.
On June 10, First Citizens BancShares, Inc in South Carolina and First Citizens Bancorporation in North Carolina announced the signing of a definitive merger agreement, in a deal worth up to $676.4 million.
The agreement provides for the merger of Columbia, S.C. -based First Citizens Bancorporation and its banking subsidiary, First Citizens Bank and Trust Company, Inc., into Raleigh, N.C.-based First Citizens BancShares, Inc. and its banking subsidiary, First Citizens Bank. The bank will be headquartered in Raleigh, N.C.
