Colorful 5K
By Linda Green

Forty people took off from the starting line Saturday on a colorful 5K fun run hosted by the chamber of commerce.
The Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce’s first “Let’s Paint T-Town” 5K Color Run was launched for fun and to kick off the first downtown farmer’s market.
“Instead of a traditional 5K, we thought we would change it up a bit and provide color,” said Chamber President Corie Johnson.
The purpose of the run was to raise event funds for the chamber to host public events like Freedom Blast and the new fall event, FALL off MAIN.
Walkers, runners and mothers pushing strollers set off at a brisk pace for the 3-mile jaunt from Church Street through neighborhoods and Westview Cemetery before ending back at the starting line behind Thomson Twin Cinemas.
William Jopling and Bryson Dinger were the first to reach the mile one and they were doused with purple paint. Heather Brown followed them. In fact, Jopling was the first to run through each mile checkpoint and be painted.
As the runners, walkers and strollers navigated through the streets, members of Thomson Fire Rescue gave them direction. Firefighters also directed traffic at intersections along the route.
