• Thomson Memorial Cemetery receives $12K donation
By Jim Wallace

Thomson Memorial Cemetery was recently presented with funds to help with cemetery improvements.
The Watson-Brown Foundation’s Junior Board grant program presented David Moore, cemetery chairman of the board, with a check for $12,000.
Moore said the cemetery has more than 1,000 graves, some dating back to 1854.
“The money will be used for headstone restoration in two phases,” said Moore, adding that the phases will cost close to $34,000, of which the cemetery board has close to $22,000. “We’ve got some of them that are leaning and some that are probably dangerous.”
He said the others are in desperate need of repair and the worst stones will be repaired first.
The Chicora Foundation, which specializes in monument work and performed work at the Wrightsboro Cemetery, will begin the work in August.
