• Firefighters take ice water challenge for foundation
By Linda Green

Area firefighters are finding an “icy” way to beat the heat and raise money at the same time.
They are calling one another out in the “Cold Water Challenge.” Firefighters either accept the challenge to have a bucket of icy water poured over them and donate $10 to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation or decline the challenge and pay $100 to the foundation.
Firefighters from Thomson and McDuffie County have been challenging each other and firefighters and other entities in neighboring cities, counties and states to take the icy waterfall.
As the individuals accept the challenge, the pouring is filmed and uploaded to Facebook and other social media sites. As the water is poured, the firefighter issues a challenge to five people.
Thomson’s Deputy Fire Chief Johnny Crawley brought the challenge to the Thomson Fire Department after he was challenged by a Jefferson County firefighter.
