• Predawn blaze destroys Thomson home, car and truck
By Linda Green

Flames lit up a Thomson street as city fire fighters rolled up on a burning house early Monday morning.
Seventeen firefighters from Thomson Fire Rescue responded to 300 Ware Street to find the house engulfed in fire and flames visible over the treetops in the 12:51 a.m. conflagration.
At the rear of the home of Mary Slaughter, fire was consuming a truck and car under a carport area. Firefighters fought to contain the flames and protect neighbors’ homes from fire, heat and damage.
According to Fire Chief Rick Sewell, the fire most likely started in front of the vehicles and moved into the garage and house.
